Types of skin diseases that are often in children
Skin diseases can be suffered by anyone, no matter they are adults or children. The rashes and hives that are common to children are usually related to responses due to environmental and food factors. In addition, children who are mainly infants or toddlers are more likely to have skin diseases because of their daily habits using diapers. Some other skin problems are at risk for children because they come into contact with other children who already have skin disorders due to certain germs. Of course, there are also hereditary skin diseases and this type is usually permanent.
Skin Disease Common to Children
Although the possibility of the type of skin disease that children suffer from can be the same as that suffered by adults, there are some types that are mostly about children.

Eczema, called medical atopic dermatitis, is a skin disease characterized by red and itchy skin. Although it often occurs in children, that does not mean adults are free from this disease. Eczema is a type of long-term (chronic) skin disease and tends to recur suddenly, but then subside. In some individuals, eczema can be accompanied by asthma.
Although the drug for this skin disorder is not yet available, some measures can be taken to reduce it, for example,:
- Avoid using soap that can cause irritation.
- Use a cream or ointment if needed.
- Diligently moisturizes the skin.
If the above actions have not been able to relieve eczema in children, immediately visit a doctor.
Diaper Dermatitis
Diaper rash or inflammation in diaper-covered areas, such as the buttocks. This one disease is suspected as a result of skin that is too long in contact with urine and feces.
Diaper rash can also be caused by exposure to too much water or the presence of residual soap in diapers that come in contact with the skin for a long time. This one disorder should not be underestimated because this condition is the basic form of irritant contact dermatitis. Luckily, this skin disorder is usually limited to locations that are covered by diapers only so handling can be focused on the area.
Cradle Cap
This condition usually occurs in newborns up to three years old. This is characterized by the presence of white or yellow scales that are thick on the surface of the scalp. In the medical world, this condition is called cradle cap, which is a general term for seborrheic dermatitis. In adults, this disorder is commonly referred to as dandruff.
Although rare, this disorder can sometimes occur in several other body parts, such as the eyebrows, eyelids, ears, folds of the nose, back of the neck, or armpits. In some cases, this disease can cause the skin to split and expel yellow fluid. However, usually, this disease will disappear by itself. But if it doesn't disappear too, you should immediately visit a doctor to get the right treatment.
Measles
The type of disease that commonly affects other children is measles. This is a disease caused by a virus with a rapid spread. In rare cases, measles can cause serious complications in children, such as pneumonia (inflammation of the lungs).
Now there is measles vaccination as a preventative measure. If children have got the measles vaccine, the chances of them getting this disease will be even less.
Warts
Warts are skin growth caused by the HPV virus. Actually, there are many types of HPV viruses, aka human papillomavirus, which are more than 60 types, but only some of which tend to cause the growth of warts on the skin. The HPV virus will stimulate the growth of cells in the outer layer of the skin quickly to grow warts. Warts in children can appear on the fingers, palms, soles of the feet, knees, or elbows.
Chickenpox
Chickenpox is a very common disease that affects the skin of children. This disease is caused by a viral infection called varicella-zoster. Symptoms of this disease are usually hot fever accompanied by a rash on the skin. The rash itself appears in the form of blisters such as dew drops, spots, and sores. Usually, chickenpox affects children for a week and can spread to other children in a short time. Luckily, there is now widespread vaccination so that this skin disease is rarely suffered by children.
Impetigo
Skin diseases that afflict these children can confuse the little parents who suffer from it. This is because impetigo has a shape similar to other skin infections such as cellulitis and ringworm. Impetigo itself is caused by bacteria and fortunately, this disease can easily be eradicated with antibiotics. This disease generally attacks the area around the mouth and nose of the child, although in other places it can also be affected. The characteristic of impetigo is a rash that emits water, blisters, and is red which can then turn into a yellowish crust. If scratched, this disease can spread and get worse.
Prickly heat
One more type of skin disease that often attacks children's bodies is prickly heat. This is caused by blockages in the pores of the skin so that sweat cannot come out. Prickly heat will then cause spots like zits to fill the neck and head. Usually, this disease will disappear by itself. Parents have to wear comfortable clothes so that prickly heat does not get worse.
Don't panic if you find your baby getting one of the above types of skin disease. If you experience confusion or hesitation in dealing with it, immediately consult your pediatrician.
